About us
Richard’s Bikes is a family business established in June 1990. The owners Richard and Julie Wiseman run the shop assisted by their son Christopher. They have also two other children - Alexander and Rebecca.
Richard began cycling at the age of 13 encouraged by his Grandad who used to ride with the Thistle and Unity Club in London. He got his first Saturday job at Paignton Cycles whilst still at school and then moved to a full time job at Colin Lewis Cycles, also in Paignton.
He met Julie on a Cyclists’ Touring Club tour of the West Coast of Scotland in 1984 and they married three years later. Julie has keen cycling parents (who also met through the CTC) and has cycled all her life. They moved to Mid-Wales as Richard got a job assembling bikes at British Eagle in Newtown and then moved back to Exeter where he became a postman, on a bike, of course! After Christopher was born in 1989 they decided to put all their energies into opening a shop of their own.
On finding a shop to rent in Magdalen Road, Exeter they finally opened on 10th June 1990. As it was such a small shop they soon outgrew the premises and September 1991 saw them move to Fore Street, Heavitree where they stayed for the next 14 years and in November 2005 they transferred to their present location at Pinhoe Road.
After extensive refurbishment they now have more shop floor and display space than ever before. There is also free parking outside and on-road parking available from 9:30am onwards. They have a fully equipped repair workshop with qualified cycle mechanics which means every new bike sold leaves them fully serviced, safety checked and ready to ride. They also offer a free first service within one month of use and are also happy to service and repair any make or type of bike.
They all enjoy cycling - whether it’s touring, racing or off-road - it’s their life and passion!!!
